Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a form of treatment that involves talking with a mental health professional to address emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. It is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client, and it is designed to help people better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and learn coping skills to manage their challenges.

There are many different types of psychotherapy, and the specific approach used will depend on the needs and goals of the individual client. Some of the common types of therapy I use in my practice include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps clients to identify and change negative patterns of thought and behavior; acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), mindfulness, and solution focused therapy. I will also utilize bibliotherapy and psychoeducation.

What is Integrative Mental Health (CIMHP)?

The goal of integrative mental health is to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a person's well-being. This may include therapies such as mindfulness, nutrition, and physical activity, in addition to more traditional treatments.  By considering all aspects of a person's health and well-being, integrative mental health aims to help individuals achieve optimal mental and physical health and improve their overall quality of life.
